The Biggest challenge most new bloggers have is learning how to build a blog following. And this is where 90% of people fail and let their website and dreams die with them.
Today I will be going over a variety of things we can do to help build a consistent blog following and getting readers to keep on coming back.
Statistics show that a successful blog will have about a 70% new visitors vs 30% returning visitors.
Of the two percentages, the highest interaction rates with affiliate sign-ups and time on page is usually by the returning visitors.
As they have been to your page before and are interested in what you have to say they are more likely to buy your products or services.
This returning traffic will slowly build-up, and you will begin to build your brand and loyal followers who will, in turn, share your content.
My Top 8 Strategies for Gaining a Blog Following
Content is King
No matter what people say without new content being posted consistently, you won’t be able to get returning visitors. That old saw Content Is King is never truer here.
On an average, you should be aiming to get about 2 – 3 articles out per week at a minimum. If you are looking to make a full-time career of it and you have the time you should be aiming to post daily.
This rule is a guideline to work by only it depends on how much time you have in your own life to be able to post regularly.
But on an average two to three posts per week minimum is what you should aim for even if you are doing it part-time.
Remember: your biggest buyers are going to be your returning readers, so they need a reason to come back.
Talk to Your Specific Niche Market
When writing your posts, make sure you speak to your target audience about what they want to hear.
It’s no good having a weight loss post and then start talking about the party you had on the weekend.
Your readers have come to the page to find out the answer to the specific question that they have in mind make sure to keep your post relevant to what they want while still keeping it friendly.
If you can do this consistently, you’re more likely to have returning visitors who want to learn more about what you are writing about.
Build Your Audience with Guest Blogging
Another way a lot of bloggers do to build the audience base is to do guest posting with other bloggers out there with similar interests.
In turn, they get to place a post of their own onto your website; it is a mutually beneficial way to promote your website and let more people out there know that you exist.
An excellent way to do this would be to go out and do your research on websites that are similar to yours but don’t clash in the products that you promote.
If you think you have found a good match approach the website owner and see if he would be interested in doing a guest post with you as well.
This is a good way of getting to be known out there by other bloggers and different audiences, all you would do is include a link back to a relevant page in your website, and he would do the same.
In a time when you have done a few posts for different bloggers, you will notice that there will be a slight increase in your unique visitors because they’re coming from the other websites to have a look at your content.
Build Your Voice
Build my voice. What are you talking about? When you first start as a Blogger, you will be trying to work out who you are and where you are going
There are so many bloggers in your target niche who are talking about the same thing that you are, but you have to say to yourself what can I do to make myself stand out.
Some bloggers are very technical and formal, while others will have a very casual aspect of their writing; this is what is considered your voice.
After a while, after you have written some articles, you will start to discover your voice and your readers will begin to resonate with what you have written.
The main thing to remember when you are developing your voice is to be comfortable when writing don’t try to change your style of writing to what others are writing, or you’ll only cramp your style.
Email Marketing is Your Best Friend
There are also a wide range of autoresponder programs out there that will work as standalone with your WordPress site or can integrate with the plugins as well.
My autoresponder of choice is getresponse.com => read full review here.
Whichever option you choose to go with either a mixture of a plugin and an autoresponder service or just the autoresponder service by itself this is going to be a big winner for you in the long run.
Note: For the first month or two until you start to build up traffic to your new website, I would not bother with a list at all.
Remember this important rule: There is no such thing as a small list; everything starts with your first sign-up.
Social Media Presence
While I am not a huge social media builder, there is no understating the plain fact that social media plays a significant factor in the development of your website.
The leading three Social Media platform to aim at should be:
- Facebook – When you start your Facebook platform up, you will be looking to creating a group where you can put your content in front of your relevant audience.
To be successful with this type of marketing means that you will have to put in a lot of time to keep up with what is trending and talked about in the group.
If your readers, see that you are not taking an active leadership role with new content and relevant information, they will quickly abandon your group and go to somebody else’s.
- Twitter – Is a quick and easy way to get your information out there in quick time, while you still need to keep everything fresh for your followers it is easier to manage than a Facebook group is.
Just keep your tweets relevant to your niche, and this will stand you in good stead.
- Linkedin – Is the place to be if you are a marketer and you are looking for a more professional audience as that is where a lot of businesses will choose as a platform of choice.
When choosing this platform to think to yourself, will this platform fit my audience profile? As it does attract the more mature audience.
Whether you’re just like me and only share your page to three different platforms or you are going to dedicate yourself to social media.
Your best option when you first start is going to choose one platform to specialise with first and then concentrate on that until you have mastered that platform.
Once you have done that you could look at other options, but I would recommend just making sure you bring you’re A-game to one area.
Social media platforms will eat a lot of your time maintaining them, make sure your content doesn’t suffer because of it or those social media sites won’t be worth anything.
Keep Your Content Up With The Times
When You write new content, make sure that you are writing about content that is relevant to what is happening in the world today.
Nobody Wants to read new content that is all about something that happened two years ago you readers want to know about what is happening today
no matter what niche you are in, there is always going to be new things to write about in the marketing world that is relevant to the time of writing the post.
Comment on Authority Sites
Another good way to get your brand out there is to comment on other authority sites out there and include your website URL in it if it allows you to.
Do your research And find a variety of websites out there that would suit you to write comments about.
Once you’ve done that add it to your RSS reader so that when they publish new posts, you can go and have a look and see if you want to leave some relevant comments on their post
If you leave good quality comments on the post, the website owner might be curious enough t have a browse of your website.
If they like what they see, they may ask you whether you would like to do a guest post on his website, at the very least you are establishing your credentials.
My Overall Summary
Being able to build a solid base of returning reader’s who come back to your site is invaluable to the success of your website
you need to be first off making sure that you have consistent content being put out for new readers to be able to consistently find and read and your existing readers to be able to come back to read again.
Once you feel comfortable in doing the basics, then it is time to start to expand, you’re reaching into these other avenues of creating a broad audience of blog followers.
The single most significant thing that destroys most new bloggers is the inability to keep up with their goals to create unique content end get returning visitors to their website.
